The useful takeawayAcrobat handles booklet imposition; your printer handles the physical paper path. Check both with one folded proof before committing to a larger print run.

Booklet mode changes page order

Adobe describes Acrobat’s Booklet option as arranging a multi-page document so that, after double-sided printing, folding and stapling, the pages appear in the correct reading order. That is different from simply printing the PDF pages in their normal sequence.

In the print dialog, Adobe places Booklet under Page Sizing & Handling. The relevant controls then ask which sides to print, which sheet range to include, which binding orientation to use and whether to auto-rotate pages within a sheet.

Read the three controls as separate decisions

Booklet subset concerns the sides of the sheet: Adobe says to choose Both sides for a duplex printer, or Front side only and Back side only for a manual duplex workflow. If you print manually, Adobe says to use the printer’s own instructions to reinsert paper for the second pass. Paper paths differ, so there is no universal reinsertion direction we can safely prescribe.

Sheets from specifies the first and last sheet to print. Binding selects the orientation from Acrobat’s menu. These options answer different questions; changing the sheet range will not fix an incorrect printer-side setting.

Make one proof copy before a larger run

Use a short document with unmistakable page numbers or a test file, print one booklet, fold it and verify the cover, center spread and reading order. Confirm that the printer has not scaled the page unexpectedly and that the chosen binding edge matches the physical fold.

Adobe’s guidance explains the software controls. It does not certify every printer driver, paper size or feed path. If the proof is wrong, change one setting at a time and consult the printer maker’s duplex instructions. That gives you a repeatable diagnosis instead of wasting a full stack of paper.

Scope and limits
